School on Wheels
1515 West Ogden Avenue

LaGrange Park, IL 60526

School on Wheels is a one-on-one mobile literacy program that helps limited English speakers and othe
rs with poor literacy skills improve their ability to speak, read and write English. Classes take place on a bus equipped with ten learning stations and a library of learning resources. The barriers that prevent many adults from learning English are lack of money, transportation and childcare. School on Wheels literacy bus removes these barriers by providing FREE tutoring in high-need communities and allowing children to accompany their parents. We train new volunteers several times a year and match each volunteer with his or her own student at one of our seven learning sites in Cook and DuPage counties. Our volunteers have helped more than 3,000 adults since 1993. We offer free computer classes in the spring.

Tutors on Wheels
1515 West Ogden Avenue

LaGrange Park, IL 60526

Tutors on Wheels is an adult literacy program that offers free English literacy classes to adults living and working in several suburban communities in DuPage County, Illinois: Naperville, Wheaton, Glendale Heights, Bloomingdale and Addison. Students receive one-on-one tutoring or participate in group classes right in their own neighborhoods. Tutors on Wheels builds on the original School on Wheels literacy program, but is not attached to a mobile classroom. Volunteers go to churches, businesses, libraries or social service agencies and teach students English literacy or help them study for the citizenship test. Tutors on Wheels also partners with DePaul University in Naperville and welcomes partnerships that enable college students to become literacy volunteers. Tutor training and teaching materials are provided.
