Our Community
Visit us in LaGrange Park and
you will find that we live together
in community supporting each other
in our work among the people.
Spend
time
with
us
and
you’ll
soon
learn
that
we
are
ordinary
women
doing
extraordinary
things.
We
laugh,
tell
jokes,
cry
during
movies,
wear
sweat
pants,
and
discuss
the
latest
bestseller
just
like
other
women.
We
are
real
women
dedicated
to
God.
Our
Mission-Unity
and
Reconciliation
If
you
long
to
help
others
and
to
make
the
world
a
better
place,
we
welcome
you
to
learn
about
our
mission
of
unity.
As
dedicated
women
of
the
Church,
we
care
for
all
God’s
people,
working,
living,
and
praying
"that
all
may
be
one."
As
a
partner
in
our
mission,
you
could
work
to
bridge
gaps
others
may
choose
to
ignore.
You
could
join
us
in
doing
all
that
women
can
do,
individually
and
jointly,
to
alleviate
the
conditions
that
cause
poverty,
suffering,
and
oppression.
Sisters
of
St.
Joseph
serve
all
God’s
people,
the
rich,
the
poor,
the
powerful,
the
weak,
and
those
sick
or
healthy,
uniting
all
with
God
and
all
creation.
Our
Spirituality
Each
of
us
responds
freely
to
God’s
call,
imitating
Jesus
in
his
untiring
zeal
to
bring
about
the
kingdom
of
God.
We
follow
Mary
in
her
constant
fidelity
to
the
Holy
Spirit
and
Joseph
in
his
loving
manner
of
service
to
others.
Members
of
our
congregation
constantly
move
forward
developing
their
individual
talents,
seeking
a
more
profound
relationship
with
God
and
our
neighbor.
Our
Heritage
The
Congregation
of
the
Sisters
of
St.
Joseph
began
in
LePuy,
France,
in
1650
under
the
guidance
of
a
Jesuit,
Jean
Pierre
Medaille.
Formed
as
an
apostolic
community,
proactive
in
ministry,
the
founding
sisters
worked
among
their
neighbors
in
schools,
hospitals,
and
orphanages.
The
first
Sisters
of
St.
Joseph
arrived
in
the
United
States
in
1836
and
branched
out
to
all
parts
of
the
country.
Mother
Stanislaus
Leary
arrived
with
six
sisters
in
LaGrange
in
1899.
Within
a
few
short
weeks,
the
Sisters
had
opened
a
school.
Our
Ministries
While
at
one
time
most
of
our
sisters
served
in
education,
today
our
ministries
are
as
varied
as
our
members
themselves.
Using
our
diverse
talents
and
gifts,
we
respond
to
the
needs
of
the
world,
serving
as
educators,
nurses,
social
workers,
spiritual
directors,
and
parish
and
hospital
chaplains,
touching
the
lives
of
more
than
20,000
children
and
adults
annually.
Each
day
we
have
the
opportunity
to
make
a
difference. |
